Tbilisi 2013
Tea and Honey Festival, Tbilisi 2013

On 26 October, peacebuilding charity International Alert and the Caucasus Business and Development Network (CBDN) will host their annual International Festival of Tea and Honey to demonstrate how their work supporting local business initiatives is enabling greater regional cooperation.

The event, which is setting up on Shardeni Street, Sioni Square from 12.00 until 17.00, will take place as part of the traditional Tbilisoba celebrations. The public will be invited to taste Caucasus Brands products including tea, honey, cheese and wine, which have all been created through cooperation between CBDN members and local businesses. These products symbolise the friendship and coming together of Caucasian communities.

Representatives from CBDN regional offices will be present throughout the event to share the results of their work. They will speak about some fascinating topics including ‘cheese diplomacy’, the role of bees in peacebuilding, and how blends of teas and herbs can promote the peaceful transformation of conflicts.

Caucasus Business and Development Network is a group of likeminded people engaging economic actors and business communities across the South Caucasus and Turkey in initiatives which build trust and mutual understanding. Our work is guided by a shared vision of an economically connected and cooperating peaceful Caucasus. CBDN, which was founded in 2005, symbolises a model of peaceful and effective communication in the region, promotes cooperation in sectors such tea and honey, cheese and wine, and supports various kinds of local, bilateral and multilateral pilot initiatives.

International Alert is one of the world’s leading international peacebuilding organisations. We work in more than 25 countries and have been helping people find peaceful solutions to conflicts for nearly 30 years. In the Caucasus we encourage dialogue and cooperation across conflict divides. We have been working in the Caucasus since 1993. Find out more at www.international-alert.org
