Since Early 2009, CBDN has been engaging in promoting cooperation with wine producers across the South Caucasus. CBDN has held consultations with wine-producers in Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey as well as Nagorny Karabakh and Abkhazia with a view for promoting sectoral regional cooperation.
In May 2009, CBDN partners from Azerbaijan and Armenia together with their Georgian counterparts organised a fact-finding mission to a wine festival in Batumi with a view of scoping potential for regional cooperation and contact forming. This was followed by further consultations with producers and sectoral pundits across the region. It was during this period that the idea of a common marketing label was conceived.
In June, CBDN brought together producers and experts from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia in a workshop in Georgia to elaborate the idea of a regional marketing label, and to identify local production units that will cooperate in the initiative.
